5 Best Easter Dog Treat Recipes

For many of us, when we think of Easter, lots and lots of chocolate comes to mind! Unfortunately for our furry friends, chocolate is highly toxic. In fact, vets have warned chocolate poisoning in dogs doubles due to Easter festivities.

It’s not just chocolate treats you must watch out for either. Dogs must stay away from raisins, sultanas, currants, and grapes, as they can cause fatal kidney failure for dogs. Some pets have died after eating just a few raisins so you must resist those puppy eyes when you are enjoying your hot crossed buns.

However, that doesn’t mean your dog can’t still have fun during Easter with some dog-friendly easter treats. In this article, we reveal our 5 best Easter dog treat recipes for your pup to lap up instead.

Easter Dog Treat Recipe 5: Dog-friendly Hot Cross Buns

What you'll need

  • Around 400g self raising gluten free flour
  • 2 medium whisked eggs
  • Blueberries
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

  • Muffin Tin
Hot Crossed Bun

Method:

  1. Add the 2 eggs, oil, and water to a mixing bowl and give it a good stir
  2. Sift the flour into the stirred mixture. The mixture should feel reasonably loose, if it’s too firm you can add more water. However, the blueberries also should add some extra juice to the mix!
  3. You guessed it – time to stir in the blueberries!
  4. Pour mixture into Muffin Tin, dividing the batter into each hole. Smaller hot cross buns will cook quicker and leave your peckish pup waiting for less time!
  5. Pipe the dog-friendly yoghurt of your choosing into a cross shape on each bun
  6. Bake the hot cross buns at 180 degrees for around 25 minutes, until the buns look golden brown on top. (Check this by poking a skewer into the middle to see if they are fully baked).
  7. Leave hot cross buns to cool before serving to your furry best friend.
