FAQs

What is the best harness to stop a dog from pulling?

The best no-pull harness is one that fits your dog correctly, redirects their movement naturally when they pull and is comfortable enough for them to wear on every walk. WOOOF's no pull dog harness collection stocks two strong options, each suited to slightly different dogs and owners:

Zee.Dog Softer Walk Harness. Available in a range of colourways including the Nox, Voyage, Mellow, and Naturals, the Softer Walk. Completely adjustable no-pull harness designed for smoother walks. It features two D-rings, one on the back and one on the front and it's the front clip that does the heavy lifting when it comes to pulling. When a lead is attached to the front D-ring and your dog tries to pull ahead, they are immediately redirected to face you rather than being able to continue pulling forward. The harness is made from super soft material for all-day comfort and features a padded control handle on the top for moments when you need extra control, useful in busy areas or when passing other dogs. The Nox version also has reflective thread woven throughout, making it a great option for early morning or evening walks. Suitable for all breeds and fully adjustable for a secure, personalised fit.

Pawshtails No-Pull Dog Harness. A more robust option built for stronger pullers, the Pawshtails harness is a breathable and heavy-duty with soft anti-chafe padding, ultra-reflective straps for visibility and fully adjustable straps for a secure fit. Like the Softer Walk, it features both a front and back lead attachment point and a padded traffic handle on top. The front clip is the key tool for managing pulling, redirecting your dog's direction of travel when they try to surge ahead. The breathable construction makes it well-suited to more active dogs or longer walks where overheating can be a concern.

Whichever harness you choose, pairing it with a training lead and quality dog training treats will give you the best results. A harness alone teaches your dog where not to go, rewarding them for walking calmly at your side teaches them where you want them to be.

How do you use a no-pull dog harness?

Using a no-pull harness correctly is straightforward, but the key is knowing which clip to use and when. Both harnesses in WOOOF's no pull collection feature two D-ring attachment points, one on the back and one on the front and each serves a different purpose.

Front clip (chest D-ring). This is the anti-pull attachment. Attaching a leash to the front D-ring prevents pulling from the dog while walking as the dog will immediately face you, when they try to pull ahead. This redirection interrupts the forward momentum and naturally discourages the pulling behaviour over time. Use the front clip during training walks or whenever pulling is a problem.

Back clip (back D-ring). The back clip is better suited to dogs who walk calmly or for activities like running, cycling, or hiking, where a front clip lead could be a trip hazard. As your dog's lead manners improve through consistent training, you can transition to using the back clip more often.

Top handle. Both the Zee.Dog Softer Walk and the Pawshtails harness feature a padded control handle on top of the harness. This is designed for moments when you need immediate, close control, such as passing another dog, navigating a busy pavement or guiding your dog away from something. It gives you a secure grip without having to rely on the lead alone.

For best results, use the front clip consistently and reward your dog with training treats whenever they walk at your side without pulling. Positive reinforcement combined with the redirection effect of the front clip is the most effective combination for improving lead manners over time.

How do you put on a no-pull dog harness?

Both no-pull harnesses in WOOOF's collection are designed to be straightforward to fit, but getting the fit right is important, as a poorly fitted harness won't work effectively and could cause discomfort. Here's how to put one on correctly:

Step 1: Loosen all straps first. Before putting the harness on your dog, loosen all adjustable straps so it's easy to slip on. Both the Zee.Dog Softer Walk and the Pawshtails harness are fully adjustable, so starting with a relaxed fit makes the process easier for you and less stressful for your dog.

Step 2: Slip it over your dog's head. Place the neck loop of the harness over your dog's head so the front D-ring sits on the chest and the padding rests comfortably against the body. The Pawshtails harness features soft anti-chafe padding and the Zee.Dog Softer Walk uses super soft fabric, both designed to sit comfortably without rubbing.

Step 3: Clip under the belly and around the body. Bring the body straps around your dog's torso and fasten any clips or buckles under the belly or around the girth. Ensure the harness sits behind the front legs, not across the shoulder joints, so your dog can move freely without restriction.

Step 4: Adjust for a snug, secure fit. Tighten the straps until the harness is snug but not tight. A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the harness and your dog's body. Check all points, such as neck, chest and girth, as the harness should be even all around. The Zee.Dog Softer Walk and Pawshtails harnesses are both fully adjustable, making it easy to dial in the right fit for your dog's shape.

Step 5: Attach the lead to the correct clip. For anti-pull walking, clip the lead to the front D-ring on the chest. The padded control handle on top is there whenever you need extra close-range control.

If your dog is new to wearing a harness, introduce it gradually. Let them sniff it first, then put it on for short periods indoors with plenty of treats to build a positive association before heading out on a walk.
