What are the best biscuits for dogs?

The best dog biscuits are ones made with quality, recognisable ingredients and tailored to your dog's needs. WOOOF stocks a range of well-regarded options, including Ruffingtons Biscuit Paws (handcrafted yogurt and carob biscuits) and Lily's Kitchen Breaktime Dog Biscuits, which are made with natural ingredients and are a popular healthy snack. For dogs who need something a little more exciting, thePet Bakery Cheeky Cheese Pawsare a gourmet crunchy option. The "best" biscuit really comes down to your dog's size, taste preferences and any dietary requirements, but starting with natural dog treats is always a solid choice.

What kind of biscuits are good for dogs?

Good dog biscuits are made with wholesome, dog-safe ingredients and free from artificial colours, flavours and unnecessary fillers. Crunchy biscuits can also have a mild dental benefit, helping to scrape away light plaque build-up as your dog chews, though they're not a replacement for dedicated dental chews. Look for biscuits that list a named protein source (like chicken, lamb, or salmon) near the top of the ingredients list. WOOOF's dog biscuits collection focuses on wholesome, baked recipes crafted with quality ingredients, from grain-free options to those with added superfoods. If your dog has sensitivities, look for single-protein or grain-free varieties or explore WOOOF's natural dog treats for simpler ingredient lists.

What's the healthiest dog biscuit?

The healthiest dog biscuits tend to be those with natural, minimal ingredients and no artificial additives. Lily's Kitchen Breaktime Dog Biscuits are a healthy snack, packed with natural ingredients. A strong option for everyday use. For dogs that need to watch their calorie intake, WOOOF also stocks low fat dog treats that deliver on flavour without the extra calories. Generally, the healthiest biscuit is one appropriate for your dog's life stage, weight and any sensitivities, so always check the feeding guide on pack and factor treats into your dog's daily calorie allowance.

How many biscuits should I feed my dog?

As a general guideline, treats (including biscuits) should make up no more than 10% of your dog's total daily calorie intake. The exact number of biscuits this translates to depends on the calorie content of the specific product and your dog's size, weight and activity level. Most quality treat brands include a feeding guide on their packaging, which is the most reliable starting point. If you're using biscuits regularly during training sessions, breaking them into smaller pieces helps keep rewards frequent without overfeeding. For dogs on a calorie-controlled diet, consider switching to low fat dog treats or soft training treats that can be portioned into tiny pieces.

What are dog biscuits made of?

The ingredients in dog biscuits vary by brand and recipe, but quality biscuits are typically made from a combination of flours (such as oat, rice or wheat), a protein source (chicken, lamb, salmon or venison) and flavour-enhancing ingredients like cheese, peanut butter or fruit. For example, WOOOF's own Ruffingtons Biscuit Paws are crafted with yogurt and carob, while the Pet Bakery Cheeky Cheese Paws are a cheese-based gourmet biscuit. Homemade dog biscuit recipes on the WOOOF blog use ingredients like oats, banana, peanut butter, pumpkin and apple, all dog-safe and easy to source. What good dog biscuits should not contain are artificial colours, preservatives, high levels of salt or sugar, or any ingredients toxic to dogs such as xylitol, onion or raisins. Always check the ingredient list before buying, especially if your dog has known allergies or sensitivities.
