Dog pâté is a smooth, spreadable meat-based treat formulated specifically for dogs. Unlike human pâté, which often contains ingredients such as onion, garlic, alcohol or high levels of salt that are harmful to dogs, dog pâté is made with dog-safe ingredients. It is typically used as a high-value reward, a training aid or a tasty addition to enrichment activities. On WOOOF, dog pâté products are designed to be versatile, meaning they can be spread onto lick mats, spooned into fillable toys like Toppls or Pupsicle toys, sliced into pieces for training or served straight as a special treat.

Is dog pâté good for dogs?

Yes, quality dog pâté can be a nutritious and highly palatable treat when used appropriately. The best options, like the Premium Pure Turkey Paté stocked by WOOOF, are made with only top cuts of meat and contain no offal, fillers, herbs, or preservatives, just pure, high-quality protein. Because it is so soft and aromatic, pâté is also particularly useful for dogs that are older, have dental sensitivities or are fussy eaters who need extra encouragement at mealtimes. It can be used as a food topper to make meals more appealing or as a filling for enrichment toys to extend feeding time and support mental stimulation. As with all treats, pâté should be factored into your dog's overall daily calorie intake and used as a complement to a balanced diet rather than a replacement for it.

What pâté can you give dogs?

You should only give dogs pâté that has been specifically formulated for them. Human pâtés are unsuitable because they commonly contain onion, garlic, shallots, wine or very high levels of salt, all of which can be toxic or harmful to dogs. WOOOF stocks a carefully selected range of dog-safe options, including the Premium Pure Turkey Paté made with nothing but top-quality turkey cuts and the Gourmet Pâté - a "delectable and nutritious treat" for even the most discerning palates. Arden Grange also produces liver and salmon paste options available on WOOOF, which double as excellent training treats due to their high palatability. When choosing a pâté for your dog, look for a named protein source high up in the ingredients list, minimal additives and no artificial preservatives. If your dog has any allergies or intolerances, opt for a single-protein recipe and always introduce new foods gradually.
