What toy do dogs love most?

There isn’t a single toy that all dogs love most, as it largely depends on their personality and play style, but toys that tap into natural instincts tend to be the most popular. Balls and fetch toys are widely loved because they encourage chasing and movement, while squeaky toys appeal to a dog’s hunting instincts by mimicking prey sounds. Chew toys are also a favourite, especially for dogs that enjoy gnawing and staying occupied. A varied selection is usually the best approach, as it allows you to match toys to your dog’s preferences and keep them engaged over time.

What can keep a dog entertained for hours?

Toys that combine mental stimulation with physical interaction are the most effective for keeping a dog entertained for long periods. Enrichment toys, such as treat-dispensing or puzzle-style toys are particularly good because they require your dog to think and work for rewards. Durable chew toys can also keep dogs occupied for extended periods, especially if they enjoy repetitive chewing. Toys play an important role in preventing boredom and destructive behaviour by providing both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Rotating different toys regularly can also help maintain your dog’s interest and prevent them from getting bored with the same option.

How to wash dog toys?

Washing dog toys is important to remove dirt, bacteria, and saliva that build up over time. The best cleaning method depends on the material. Hard toys like rubber or plastic can usually be washed with warm, soapy water and thoroughly rinsed, while some can also go in the dishwasher if they are durable enough. Soft toys, including plush or rope toys, can often be cleaned in a washing machine or dishwasher on a hot cycle, then left to air dry. Regular cleaning is recommended because toys can quickly collect germs that may affect your dog’s health if left unwashed.

How do I choose the right size dog toy?

Choosing the correct size dog toy is essential for your pet’s safety. A toy that is too small can be a choking hazard, especially for larger breeds, while a toy that is too large may be difficult for smaller dogs to play with. Always check the recommended size guidelines for each toy and consider your dog’s mouth size and chewing habits to find the perfect fit.

Are interactive toys good for puppies?

Yes, interactive toys are ideal for puppies as they provide both mental stimulation and physical exercise, which are crucial during their development. Toys like puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing toys can help keep puppies engaged, encourage problem-solving skills and reduce destructive chewing by redirecting their energy towards fun playtime.

Can dog toys help with training?

Absolutely. Many toys, such as balls, ropes and interactive puzzle toys, can be used as training tools to motivate and reward your dog. Incorporating toys into training sessions makes learning fun and strengthens the bond between you and your dog. Training accessories like KONG toys also allow you to add treats, making training an easy way to keep your dog focused and engaged.

What safety precautions should I take when giving my dog toys?

Always supervise your dog during playtime, especially with new toys, to ensure they don’t swallow small parts or destroy the toy in a way that could cause harm. Regularly inspect toys for signs of wear and tear, and discard any that are cracked or broken. Choose toys made from non-toxic materials and avoid those with small detachable pieces that could be swallowed.

Where should I store dog toys at home?

Keeping dog toys organized in a dedicated basket or storage box helps maintain a tidy home and makes it easy to rotate toys for variety. A well-stocked toy basket also allows you to quickly find the perfect toy for your dog’s mood, whether they want to snuggle with a soft plush or play an energetic game of fetch with a ball.

Product Details

The ZippyPaws Burrow Christmas Dog Toy Yule Log turns playtime into a proper puzzle. Three small squeaky chipmunks, each fitted with a round squeaker, are tucked inside a soft, log-shaped burrow for your dog to sniff out and dig free. Once they're found, simply tuck them back in and the game starts all over again, making it a toy that keeps offering something new rather than losing its appeal after the first play session.

Built from recycled materials, it's a thoughtful choice for anyone keen to keep playtime a little kinder to the planet without compromising on durability or fun. It's best suited to medium and large dogs, and as with any enrichment toy with small, removable parts, play should always be supervised to keep those little chipmunks from ending up anywhere they shouldn't.
