How to make a dog treat dispenser?

While you absolutely can DIY a basic treat dispenser at home, a plastic bottle with holes cut in it being the classic version, the reality is that purpose-built treat dispensers from the brands in this collection are safer, more durable and far more effective at keeping your dog engaged. The good news is that making the most of the dispensers you already have is really the fun part. With the Woof Pupsicle, you can use the Woof Treat Tray to mould your own homemade frozen pops using whatever your dog loves: peanut butter, dog pate, wet food, yoghurt or a layered mix, then freeze and slot them in. With Toppls, you can layer different fillings to create a more complex challenge. Batch prepping a week's worth and keeping them in the freezer is the easiest way to always have something ready, which is about as close to effortless enrichment as it gets.

What is the best dog treat dispenser?

Honestly, the best dog treat dispenser depends on your dog and their size, how they like to play and how much of a challenge they need. That said, a few standout products in this collection are consistently popular for good reason. The Woof Pupsicle is our bestseller, which is fillable, freezable and available in a standard and tough black edition for power chewers, it's one of the most versatile and long-lasting options around. The West Paw Zogoflex Toppls are another firm favourite, built for moderate chewers and designed to be stuffed, frozen and even connected together for extra challenge. The SodaPup Honey Pot and Flower Pot dispensers are brilliant for dogs who need a slower, more methodical challenge, while the Dogsee Yeti Yak Treatoy takes a different approach: you insert a Yeti nugget, microwave it briefly and let your dog work through a long-lasting chew toy hybrid. If you're just starting out with enrichment, the SodaPup Honey Pot is a great entry point, which is affordable, easy to fill and genuinely engaging for most dogs.

How do you use a dog treat dispenser?

Most treat dispensers in this collection work on the same simple principle: fill, optionally freeze, give to your dog and let them do the rest. For the Woof Pupsicle, load a frozen Pop or homemade filling into the toy and hand it over, your dog licks and works at the filling until it's gone. For the West Paw Toppls, spoon or squeeze your chosen filling into the wide opening, freeze if you want to extend the session, and give to your dog on a food mat to catch any drips. The SodaPup Honey Pot and Flower Pot dispensers work as both slow feeders and lick toys. Fill the textured surface or hollow cavity with soft food or dog peanut butter and let your dog work through the ridges and patterns. The Dogsee Yeti Yak Treatoy is a little different, you insert a Yeti nugget, give it a quick blast in the microwave, and let it cool before giving to your dog as a long-lasting chew dispenser. The general rule with all of them is: the more you freeze the filling, the longer the session lasts and the more mentally rewarding it is for your dog.

Are treat dispensers safe for dogs?

Yes, the treat dispensers in this collection are all designed with dog safety at the forefront. The West Paw Toppls are made from Zogoflex rubber, which is non-toxic, BPA-free, dishwasher safe and tested for durability with moderate chewers. The SodaPup range is made from their proprietary Pup-X material, also non-toxic and food-safe. The Woof Pupsicle comes in two versions: the standard edition for everyday dogs and the Black Edition made from a tougher rubber for stronger chewers. The Loblola Pinecone Puzzle Toy is described as suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is built from durable, dog-safe materials. As with any toy or chew, the most important thing is choosing the right product for your dog's size and chewing style, checking the sizing guidance on individual products, and always supervising play, especially when introducing a new toy. Over time, you'll know how your dog interacts with their dispenser and can adjust fillings and freeze times accordingly. None of the products in this collection are designed to be left with unsupervised dogs, particularly heavy chewers.
