Do dog wipes really work?

Yes, for everyday clean-ups between baths, dog wipes are genuinely effective. They're designed to keep your dog fresh and clean, for everyday use both on the go and at home, as a convenient way to clean your pet without the need for a full bath. For light dirt, dusty paws after a walk or a quick freshen up, a good wipe does the job well. For heavier messes, some wipes are built for more serious situations. The HOWND Yup You Stink antibacterial wipes effectively wipe off fox poo, cow dung, skunk spray, mud, urine, grime and all things smelly. That said, wipes are a complement to bathing rather than a permanent replacement, if your dog has rolled in something particularly unpleasant, a proper wash may still be necessary. For everyday maintenance though, a good quality wipe goes a long way.

What kind of wipes can you use on dogs?

There are several types of dog wipes, each suited to different uses. The most versatile are multi-purpose grooming wipes, which can be used across the body. Multi-purpose grooming wipes cover paws, bums, faces, ears and all body cleaning, making them a practical everyday option for most situations. For dogs with sensitive skin, the material and ingredients matter. Bamboo-cloth wipes infused with shea butter and aloe vera are gentle enough to clean up the muckiest of pups while keeping coats shiny and soft. For eco-conscious owners, certified compostable wipes made from plant-based materials are designed to break down naturally after use. And for teeth, dedicated dental wipes are a separate category - dental wipes pre-soaked in aloe vera and peppermint help remove tartar and plaque and fight bad breath, and are suitable for daily use on dogs of all sizes including puppies. The one thing to avoid is using human baby wipes or household wipes, which often contain fragrances, alcohol, or other chemicals not formulated for a dog's skin pH. Stick to wipes specifically made for dogs.

Can I use dog wipes on my dog daily?

For most wipes designed for dogs, daily use is absolutely fine and for many dogs, it's genuinely beneficial. Dog wipes are designed for everyday use both on the go and at home. After every walk is a common routine, particularly for dogs who pick up mud, pollen or general grime on their paws and coat. The key is choosing a wipe gentle enough for frequent use. Wipes made with 100% bamboo cloth infused with shea butter and aloe vera are soft enough for daily cleaning on paws, bums, tums and anything in between. Products free from alcohol, parabens and harsh chemicals are the best choice for regular use, as these are less likely to irritate skin or strip natural coat oils over time. If your dog has particularly sensitive skin, unscented options are worth considering.

Do I need to wipe my dog after peeing?

There's no strict rule that you need to, but for some dogs it's a good habit, particularly for females, long-haired breeds and dogs prone to skin irritation. Urine can cause localised irritation or odour if it's left on the coat or skin, especially around the belly and back legs. A quick wipe after outdoor toileting can help keep things clean and comfortable. Dog wipes are designed to deal with urine as well as mud, grime and other messes, so they're well suited to this use. For dogs who wear nappies or who are incontinent, wiping after urination is particularly important to prevent skin irritation and infection. As with any regular wipe-down, choosing a gentle, fragrance-free formula is best for sensitive areas. Our dog wipes and grooming collections have options gentle enough for frequent, everyday use.
